First Impressions of "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World"

I went to a screening of the movie earlier this week.

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World is an incredibly AWESOME movie. It is based on the popular Scott Pilgrim graphic novels and it plays out like one, with video games mixed in. When characters are introduced they get their own mini profile on the screen (like stats on the back of a baseball card), when sounds are make (like the “thud” of Pilgrim’s head against a telephone pole, or a school bell ringing) words appear on the screen like they would in a comic, or in those old Batman episodes. They take an approach, reminiscent of Stranger Than Fiction or Fight Club that’s very clever and pleasing on a visual level.

I won’t give anything away here. I’ll just say that the movie is entertaining, quirky, fast-paced, has a great soundtrack, Michael Cera (as Pilgrim) is great as always and it includes the funniest shoe-tying scene in the history of film. It’s one you’ll probably want to see more than once, and you should start this weekend.
