Today, the Rock Hall of Fame announced its 15 nominees for 2012 induction.
In order to be considered for such a historical rock and roll honor, the band or artist had to release its first album (or single) 25 years ago, according to USA Today. The decision will be made by over 500 expert voters (academics, journalists, producers, and others in the music biz) from around the world, who will receive ballots from the Rock Hall of Fame.
To be selected for induction, performers must receive the highest number of votes and more than 50% of the votes, according to the RHF’s Induction Process page. Around five to seven performers are inducted each year at a ceremony in Cleveland at the Rock Hall of Fame on April 14, right smack dab in the middle of the first weekend at Coachella 2012.
So, if you can’t score tickets to Indio, CA this spring but wanna take a rock-themed vacation, then consider the 27th Annual Induction Ceremony. Tickets go on sale in December – details at rockhall.com. This is not to be confused with semi-fictional Rock and Roll History Museum in Sacramento, which was featured in Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny. (There is a Rock and Radio Museum in Sac.)
