Quick (long) set-up: I love Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know”. I really do. In fact, I would say that it’s my favorite new song. It’s a masterpiece. I love every second of it. That section before Kimbra begins to sing? Utterly brilliant. I get chills every time I watch the video. So, you can imagine my excitement when I was told I’d be interviewing Gotye.
I came in yesterday at 9:30am only to find out that it had been moved to 10:30am today. Okay, that’s fine. I mean, I rolled out of bed and wore the same clothes as the day before to make it on time. But, so what?! Who needs to shower anyway? (side note: snooze alarms should really be outlawed.)
Alright, I come in today and get a call from his label (at 10:30) that the interview needs to be pushed back 10 minutes. Fine. I get them back on the phone and then have to wait on the line for 3 more minutes while my heart decides to start pounding in fast copious amounts. Again, fine. You see, sometimes when we interview bands on the phone it’s on a day where they are talking to all kinds of media outlets all over the country in one sitting. FINE. Needless to say, when I finally (finally) get Gotye on the phone I hear the label (said with such glee) tell him “last one!”. Huh? THEN, I’m told (and this is one of my all time top 5 biggest pet peeves from an artist-rep) I need to “keep it short!” What the hell?
Okay, now I’m a little annoyed. But, you know what? I’m a professional alright? I, like Nigel in Spinal Tap, didn’t (really) let it affect my performance. I did, however, need to express my displeasure (ever so slightly) for the first 20 seconds. After that, we had a pleasant chat about how awful Paris Hilton is.
Enjoy! It’s only like 6 minutes… What else do you have to do?
Oh, and Universal Republic.. I’m just messin’ around.
Shit, I ain’t mad at’cha, I got nuthin’ but luv for ya, do ya thang boy.
