As No Doubt near the end of the recording session for their long awaiting 6th album titled Push And Shove, the band calls attention to one of their signature sounds: horns.

In the latest in-studio webisode, the foursome couldn’t be more delighted to welcome back Steve Bradley and Gabe McNair with their patented dance hall sound. As touring musicians, the band has had a nearly decade-long relationship with the trumpeters.

Shot by Todd Stefani, Gwen’s brother, the video begins with a subtle joke played on his sister. A shot of Steve and Gabe performing a brass version of Darth Vader’s “Imperial March,” is edited over Gwen’s arrival.

“Having Steve and Gabe come to the studio after all the time we’ve spent on these songs was a big sense of relief,” says drummer Adrian Young. “They’re fresh dudes. When they step in the room it’s like, ahhhh. Freshness and excitement with those guys.” To which Gwen adds, “Basically, all the sort of Reggae-like-ish, Dance-hall-y type songs have horns. I’m surprised how many songs actually have horns on the record. I don’t even think the last album had this many.”

Guitarist Tom Dumont weighs in on the distinctive contributions that horns have always made to No Doubt’s performances. “When I joined the band years ago, I think we had five horn players. It was a big section. There’s something about having real instruments these days and a real horn section that just breathes life into a song.”

No Doubt expects a September 25th, 2012 release for their latest horn-laden masterpiece.
