After Friday’s meltdown during a radio festival performance, all eyes were on Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong. Fans were left guessing as to the real cause of his actions on stage. Was Armstrong enraged over the decision to cut the band’s performance short or was it something else?
In a statement issued to the press today, the band apologized for the on-stage rant and says that the frontman will seek help.
“Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong is seeking treatment for substance abuse.” The statement continues, “The band regretfully must postpone some of their upcoming promotional appearances.”
The postponed “promotional appearances” include Live 105′s Grande Green Day Show and Monday’s Red Bull Sound Space webcast.
Please do hold onto your tickets until further notice and if you were one of the lucky Live 105 winners, you’ll be covered for the rescheduled Grande Green Day show
We hope for the best AND a very successful recovery for our punk rock hero and Bay Area native Bille Joe Armstrong and our thoughts go out to him, his immediate family, his bandmates and the entire GREEN DAY crew
Thank you for understanding this serious situation
An outpouring of support can be seen all over the internet.
Props & support to @GreenDay for truthfully explaining what happened. Godspeed & good luck for a speedy recovery. Your fans will wait. :-)
