Everyone has a phobia or two but some are more unique than others. In a backstage interview at LIVE 105′s Not So Silent Night 2012 in Oakland this weekend, Tegan & Sara revealed a secret Christmas phobia. The duo have “a natural distrust” of Santa Clause.

“We didn’t really like Santa very much.” Explained Tegan, “We always looked a little perplexed and a little suspicious on his knee.”

The “distrust” goes back to their Calgary roots where the man who dressed as Santa in their town was also the “village drunk.”

“He was actually kind of a jolly guy. He wasn’t scary or anything like that.” Sara commented, “I think we associated the booze smell with like a bad omen.”

(Un)luckily for the duo, LIVE 105′s DJ No Name came to the interview dressed as – you guessed it – Santa Clause.

Tegan & Sara’s new single “Closer” is out now. Their upcoming album Heartthrob is scheduled for release on January 29th, 2013.
