The glittery UK singer Charli XCX is on her way to becoming household pop-icon.
The 20-year-old artist has been putting her musical talents to work all across the board these pasts two years. From co-writing songs with artists, including Icona Pop in the Breakout Top 10 Hit “I Love It” and her more recent collaboration with pop-icon Britney Spears for her upcoming and untitled album, to releasing her debut album True Romance earlier this year.
If you’re wondering what Charli’s been up to with her own material, the first single “SuperLove” off her upcoming album, slated for a March 2014 release, should give you some idea of what to expect.
“It’s a mix of the Icona Pop track,” she explained to Ultimate Music, “and takes inspiration from Bow Wow Wow, The Waitresses and The Flying Lizards and those Lolita-esque bratty French girls and other girl power heroines. I wrote the song the same week as ‘I Love It’. Let’s just say I was in a similar mind frame. The songs are quite shouty and bratty. It’s more live and less intimate. The songs are very pop with a bit of punk.”
