Community Connection With Liz Saint John 03.30.2014

Liz Saint John interviews three guests every Sunday morning covering a variety of issues and topics. She talks with representatives from Bay Area non-profit organizations, documentary filmmakers, authors, and professors.

1. PEERS, Peers Envisioning and Engaging in Recovery Services, Executive Director Lisa Smusz explains how her education and advocacy organization help Alameda County adults with mental illness work towards empowerment, social inclusion, and equal rights.

2. Evelyn Dilsaver, National Board Member of Women’s Initiative, explains how the organization trains and supports high potential, low income women in Oakland and San Francisco with the goal of them becoming successful business owners.

3. Writer Scott O’Connor explains how his novel Half World is based on the real mind experiments conducted by the CIA in San Francisco and New York City from the late 50’s to 1973. Test subjects in San Francisco were men who would go with prostitutes to apartments and were then drugged and experimented on to try to find ways to control the minds of enemies of the United States.
