AT&T Park was especially rocking this Friday night when the Giants hosted the second annual Metallica Night.
The evening boasted special events and crossover with one of the Bay Area’s most legendary bands with James Hetfield and Kirk Hemmet performing a rocking National Anthem, special giveaways, and a Metallica theme throughout.
Before the evenings game And festivities kicked off, front man James Hetfield explained how this melding of rock and baseball came about.
“We are fortunate enough to live in the Bay Area and hook up with the Giants.” James Hetfield explained, “They are local boys doing good and we are hopefully in the same department as that. It’s basically a fun night. Celebrating local folks. Local music.”
“This is our second time so we did okay the first time so we got asked back for number two.”
Though James said Metallica supports all athletes that strive to improve and they met and signed autographs for some of the visiting Miami Marlins before the game – that support only goes so far.
“Have a good game but just don’t beat us.” Hetfield said about the Miami Marlins, “you wanna wish them health.”
When asked about the Giants long time nemeses to the south and how the Giants we better, Hetfield put it simply, “In many ways. In all ways”
“Nothing against LA.” Hetfield added, “But we are just better.”
Lars did the ceremonial first pitch …
and the James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett did the anthem.
Unfortunately, the Giants lost 7 to 5 … but the night still rocked!
