Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace Blasts Arcade Fire for Lack of Trans Actor in ‘We Exist’

By Kevin Rutherford

For Arcade Fire‘s new video for “We Exist,” the band dresses Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield in drag and set him loose through Coachella.

According to Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace, their choice of lead actor was less than stellar.

Grace blasted the band in a tweet Thursday afternoon (May 22), telling them they should have nabbed a trans actor for the role, rather than someone playing one.

“Dear @arcadefire,” she wrote, “maybe when making a video for a song called “We Exist” you should get an actual ‘Trans’ actor instead of Spider-Man?”
