Guy Who Paid $20K to be a ‘Game of Thrones’ Character is from SF

By Alyssa Pereira

Not long ago, Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin put up a unique prize for a charity auction benefitting the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary in New Mexico. For $20,000 a bidder could be made into a character and then killed in the upcoming installment, “A Song of Ice and Fire.”

And, as luck (and lots of money) would have it, the winner was named: 30-year-old San Franciscan Dave Goldblatt. The Facebook Product Specialist doesn’t know the details of his death just yet, or really anything else about his soon-to-be character, including what his name will be. “I have no idea,” he told ABC News. “You’re going to have to ask George about that.”

According to Prizeo, the site that facilitated the charity donations, the two winners get to choose their “character’s station in the world (lordling, knight, peasant, whore, lady, maester, septon, anything).” Goldblatt opted for Valyrian—the people known for their indestructible steel.

A second winner was chosen, but she chose to remain anonymous.
