K. Flay is on the road with the VANS Warped Tour currently, which means you just missed her here in the Bay, but as a perennial Bay Area resident, chances are she’ll be back soon enough.
On Tuesday, K. Flay’s video for the hook-laden “Thicker Than Dust” premiered over at Entertainment Weekly. The new album, Life as a Dog was mixed right here in San Francisco at Different Fur Studios, and was funded through PledgeMusic by many local fans here in the Bay. You can call it a homegrown effort—we certainly are.
The video was a concept put together by Frank Door of We Will Shoot You and K. Flay herself. “We have worked together on developing ideas on previous videos I’ve done with her,” Door says. “We actually riff really well together.”
“Thicker Than Dust” features K. Flay roaming around the Dogpatch of San Francisco with three friends in tow, but has an underlying feeling of detachment. “We wanted to come up with something that made you feel alone even though you were surrounded by friends.”
Shooting the video looked pretty fun too. We Will Shoot You and Flay used 20 pounds of all-purpose flour for the finale—not a bad way to spend an afternoon. Check out the video below.
