Portugal. The Man may not be from California, but they’re about to do the Bay Area a solid anyway.
The quintet is teaming up with StubHub, (a San Francisco-based company) for a show that will give a whopping 100% of proceeds back to local Bay Area schools through the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation (MHOF), an organization that gives musical instruments to underfunded music programs. As a matter of fact, the schools, including Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary, and Westlake Middle, will not only get full ticket proceeds, they’ll also receive a portion of an initial $250,000 (via MHOF).
And Portugal. The Man is fully onboard with that. “Where we grew up there was no music education. As a band, Portugal. The Man has always done whatever we can to encourage kids to explore music and the arts,” they said in a press release. “We are excited to partner with StubHub to help give kids the tools they need to explore their creativity.”
The band will play San Francisco’s Regency Ballroom August 12 through StubHub’s very first self-produced concert series, called StubHub’s Next Stage.
Tickets go on sale July 30 (here at StubHub) and will cost $25.
