The Fast Foodie: Burger King’s Chicken Fries
Back in January of 2012 a dark cloud descended on the fast food world when Burger King discontinued their Chicken Fries. Over two years later the fast food giant has come to their senses and BK Chicken Fries are back!
Admittedly, I had never tried the original incarnation of the Chicken Fries in their 2005 to 2012 run of oddly shaped dominance but I found the idea instantly appealing and had friends salivating at the idea.
So what exactly are Chicken Fries?
Burger King describes them as:
“Made with premium white meat chicken, our Chicken Fries are coated in a light crispy breading seasoned with savory spices and herbs. Chicken Fries are shaped like fries and are perfect to dip in any of our delicious dipping sauces. Choose from BBQ, Honey Mustard, Ranch, Zesty, Buffalo and Sweet & Sour.”
In non-marketing speak, they are formed, breaded, and fried chicken in the rough shape of french fries. To add the the aesthetic they are served in a modified french fry box that is emblazoned with an odd looking chicken cartoon.
How they taste?
Do you like formed and deep fried chicken? Then you will love these. They are spiced different from McDonald’s McNuggets falling somewhere closer to a KFC flavor. The first bite was a bit strange as they are somewhat reminiscent of fish sticks in size but not in texture. After that little shock, I sat back in my plastic booth and enjoyed my Chicken Fries to the dulcet tones of the piped in Jason Mraz “The Remedy.” BK’s Chicken Fries hit the fast food spot — not too greasy — and with the small sized meal, I was able to leave Burger King satisfied with very little “food shame.”
Food For Thought:
If they can fashion chicken into fries, why not take it to the next level. Chicken Rings? Curly Chicken? Seasoned Crisscut Chicken? Liberate the formed and fried chicken!
