Man, the only thing better than throwing back a beer after work is simultaneously clobbering some menacing goons in Street Fighter while doing it. Naturally then, upon hearing the news that not one, but two arcade-themed bars are setting up shop around the city with opening dates fast approaching presumably lit up my face like like I just debunked the high score in Duck Hunt (still only in my dreams so far).

For those of us with a perpetually-stunted sense of maturity (hi) or just a wicked penchant for video games, this is pretty exciting news.

The first bar, called Brewcade will be located on Market at 15th St, and is brought to you by the siblings who started the nearby Blackbird, a fancy cocktail bar near Café du Nord (RIP). Per SF Gate, Brewcade will have a “Munchies Bar” including things like chicharrones, caramel corn, and beef jerky from local food companies, and will boast a beer bar with over 25 taps. You know, just in case you weren’t already sold on the place.

Brewcade hasn’t yet unveiled which video games will be at the bar, but if they’re half as good as the spot’s beer selection, you can bet your ass it will be worth your time.

Meanwhile in SOMA, BuzzWorks, which will be a sister bar to Butter across the street, is set to open on 11th Street between DNA Lounge and Slim’s.

Owner Vlad Cood obnoxiously calls it a “man cave on steroids,” but promises it will be equal portions sports bar and arcade. It will feature every brain stimulating game from billiards to pinball, darts, and a host of classic arcade games. There will be over 20 HDTVs dispersed throughout the bar too, so you’ll be able to catch the game while you play a game. Noshing will be easy too—even though food won’t be made in-house, the staff will deliver in from nearby spots like Bergerac, Cathead’s BBQ, and Bar Agricole.

The bar itself isn’t cutting any corners either. Its roster will include some of Northern California’s finest brews and wines, with imported additions like sake and soju.

BuzzWorks will open just in time for NFL playoffs in January, and Brewcade should open this fall.
