Hellooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Bay Area!
We took a few weeks off from The Buzz for the holidays, but its 2015, and we’re BACK!
Here are the week’s biggest news stories, from #Manspreading to the BottleRock lineup and beyond!
“Manspreading”, or, the propensity of a male public transit rider to take up an excessive amount of space on a crowded bus or train by spreading their legs, is not new at all (despite its new trademark name), but municipal officials are finally getting around to noticing. Watch a KPIX reporter take on the issue.
The third annual BottleRock fest is hitting the stage in Napa this May, featuring headliners No Doubt, Imagine Dragons, and Robert Plant. Not to be outdone, Coachella announced theirs two hours later.
Not many people would stand up to Oprah, but at least one of our own did. When Bay Area hula hoop artist Revolva was asked to work for free at Oprah’s tour at its stop in Oakland this winter (which, mind you, promoted the idea of valuing one’s self-worth) , she noticed a glaring contradiction. Artists, she argues, should never be asked to work for free, especially when tickets to said event are upwards of $1000 a piece. Live 105 interviewed Revolva (and paid her for her time, unlike Oprah).
This week, pop star Sia released an artistic video for her new song “Elastic Heart”, starring 27-year-old actor Shia LaBeouf dancing with 12-year-old Maddie Ziegler (famous for her role in Sia’s “Chandelier” video). While many people considered the video a conceptual work of art (Sia herself stated the premise was “two warring Sia states”), others condemned it for “pedophiliac” undertones. What do you think?
Speaking over over-accomplished pre-teens, 11-year-old Sophia Grace, famous for her simultaneous propensity towards ruffled dresses and rap verses, released a banger this week, complete with a genuine girl power rap video. Yep, you read that right: her new song is not terrible, you know, for a kid.
