Marshawn Lynch may be on the world’s most awful football team, but no one can argue with the fact that the Oakland native is gradually becoming the most entertaining player to watch off the field.
Lynch, widely known for his aversion to the press, has made headlines recently for repeatedly answering all reporters’ questions with the same phrases. At yesterday’s Media Day, for example, he answered “I’m here so I don’t get fined” 29 times. Had he avoided the press, he would have been slapped with a $500,000 fine from the NFL.
Well, he might have done his part in talking to the press, but as it turns out, a different oversight may have Lynch facing an altogether different fine: ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Darren Rovell report that the “BeastMode” hat he was wearing was not approved by the NFL ahead of time. Being a New Era hat (New Era is an NFL sponsor), Lynch might end up walking away from this one, but as it’s sold on a separate website, a fine might be pending.
Last season, RGIII was fined $10,000 by the NFL for wearing an unauthorized shirt, so the price tag would likely be somewhere around there, as long as the commission doesn’t take into account Lynch’s already substantial offenses; he has already doled out over $130,000 in fines for his media dodging and profane gestures.
