Outside Lands is always full of surprises. Whether it’s Jack White serenading a tiny crowd tucked away in a corner of the festival grounds or Bob Weir joining Norah Jones on stage, the fest is slowly building a reputation of surprising fans in the best way.
Such a big festival overflowing with talent is bound to breed a few collaborations here and there. At least, that’s what we hope. This morning, we took a minute to peruse the lineup to pretend, wish, and imagine the wonderful collaborations of our fantasies we’d love to see come to fruition on the Outside Lands stages this year.
Who: Tame Impala + Kendrick Lamar
What song: Something like this:
Who: Glass Animals + The Black Keys
What song: “Walla Walla.” The Black Keys would offer a lot of depth by adding a sinister rumble to the song. Plus, they’d undoubtedly throw in some gnarly solo breaks.
Who: Elton John + George Ezra
What song: It would definitely be cool to see a rendition of “Budapest” but the duo could do something completely transcendental with “Barcelona.”
Who: Sam Smith + Fantastic Negrito
What song: There is so much soul in both of these acts. They could do a killer blues cover of Smith’s “Stay With Me” or even “Latch.”
Who: G-Eazy + Devon Baldwin
What song: Bay Area Connection: “Let’s Get Lost”
Who: Billy Idol + Mandy of Misterwives
What song: This: “Rebel Yell”
Who: DJ Mustard & Sky Ferreira
What song: Something with high energy, like Ferreira’s ” Lost In My Bedroom”:
Who: Sam Smith + George Ezra
What song: A mash up of “I’m Not The Only One”/”Budapest”
Who: The Black Keys + Benjamin Booker + Fantastic Negrito
What song: Any blues song. It would be killer to see a huge guitar battle with a bit of Fantastic Negrito’s soulful vocal lines.
Who: The Family Crest + St. Vincent
What song: “Digital Witness” — can you even imagine Annie Clark commanding an epic orchestra with the skill of The Family Crest?
Who: Kendrick Lamar + Allah-Las
What song: A full band version of his “i”:
Who: Lake Street Dive + Nate Ruess
What song: fun.’s “Some Nights”
