Watch: Ed Helms, Christina Applegate Star In Rebooted ‘National Lampoon’ Redband Trailer

By Alyssa Pereira

It has been over three decades since National Lampoon’s Vacation premiered in theaters in 1983, and today, the Griswold kids are all grown up with families of their own, taking their own holiday trips.

Well, trying to, at least. Rusty (Ed Helms) and his wife Debbie (Christina Applegate) now have two boys of their own, and as sort of a homage to his childhood, Rusty decides to take the family to Wally World before the park is set to close for good. They visit Rusty’s sister Audrey (Leslie Mann) and her husband, the very, um, brazen Stone Crandall (played by Chris Hemsworth).

But though the premise is familiar, fans of the National Lampoon franchise need not worry about a crass remake.

“When I read the script and realized it wasn’t just a remake, it’s a continuation,” Helms said back at CinemaCon late last month. “I’m Rusty Griswold, I’m not re-inventing Clark Griswold. It’s an original character we’ve never seen before as an adult.”

Naturally, Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo make an appearance, as do Nick Kroll (“The League”), Tim Heidecker (“Tim & Eric”), Kaitlin Olson and Charlie Day (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) and Michael Peña (American Hustle).
