Coachella Organizers Set To Launch New York City Festival This Summer

NEW YORK (LIVE 105) — The concert organizers who put on the annual Coachella Valley Arts & Music Festival have announced plans for a new three-day music celebration that will be held on Randall’s Island in New York City this summer, according to reports.

Billboard.com┬áreported on Monday that Panorama will be held at Randall’s Island Park on July 22-24 by concert promoters Goldenvoice. The organizers’ announcement proclaimed that Panorama would be “Three days of music, art, technology, and local food offerings.”

“We look forward to bringing Panorama to New York City and introducing a new festival that showcases today’s top music acts,” said Mark Shulman, Festival Producer at Goldenvoice, in a statement. “We’re committed to creating an event that will provide significant benefits to New York City with the level of experience and meticulous attention to detail for which Goldenvoice is known.

The festival will be held on the same site as the independently produced Governor’s Ball Music Festival that has been held in Randall’s Island Park annually since 2011. The festival announced it’s line-up including Kanye West, The Strokes, The Killers and Beck just a few days ago.

Rumors about a new festival at the location started swirling after Governor’s Ball organizers launched a petition to New York City Governor Bill de Blasio that major concert promoters were attempting to launch a second competing festival that was initially supposed to take place two weeks after the early June dates of the Governor’s Ball. The petition asked for de Blasio to reject the approval of the new event.

Panorama will now be held over a month and a half after the Governor’s Ball, but it remains to be seen if the region will be able to support two separate festivals.
