Some new sounds for 2016! Here are 7 new artists that I’m very excited about this year, running the gamut from electronic to punk and even some indie rock, folk and electro-pop, too, and all these new acts, plus many more of course, I feature and spin on our weekend new music radio shows Subsonic and Soundcheck .
Thanks for listening,

Exciting new electronic producer on the rise out of the NYC underground and he takes the whole tropical house movement and tweaks and contorts it to create a unique, inimitable and dynamic sound all to his own. GRYFFIN is poised to explode in 2016 with his new future smash ‘Heading Home’ and look for him to announce next week his SF debut slated for this April! For Fans Of: KYGO, MATOMA, OLIVER HELDENS.
Hometown: Oakland, CA

Raucous Oakland upstarts are ready to play your next house party with an infectious cocktail of garage rock and surf punk pop and the boys just released a new rowdy video produced by fellow Oakland resident Kreayshawn. Its like if SWMRS had graduated from the ‘School Or Rock’ that was taught by Billie Joe Armstrong, Tim Armstrong or Julian Casablancas instead of Jack Black. For Fans Of: Fidlar, Beach Fossils, The Orwells.

That voice tho! One of the most powerful and brawny, yet soulful and passionate new voices I’ve heard in years. BISHOP is an emerging LA artist by way of England and her music paints a picture in my head of Amy Winehouse riding around in the desert, on a Harley, with a biker club from Sons Of Anarchy. For Fans Of: Alabama Shakes, PJ Harvey, Black Keys.
4. NINE POUND SHADOW
Hometown: Berkeley, CA
Social Media: @NinePoundShadow
Don’t know much about this new Berkeley duo, except that they consist of a couple of brothers, their new psych-pop single ‘Melody’ is amazingly good -kinda like the Bay Area’s answer to Broken Bells- and they just singed to newly launched 30th Century Records– which is a new Sony imprint record label founded by one of today’s premier music producers Danger Mouse! (who has worked with U2, Beck, Black Keys AND is producing the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album)
5. SHAKE SHAKE GO
Hometown: Wales, UK
Social Media: @ShakeShakeGo
Welsh folk-rockers with Parisian roots just released their critically-acclaimed debut album last week and if you were in the market for that idyllic soundtrack as you frolic through a field of daisies holding hands with your significant other, look no further than SHAKE SHAKE GO. For Fans Of: First Aid Kit, Of Monsters And Men, The Lumineers
6. CULLEN OMORI
Social Media: @cullenomorii
Former frontman of Chicago indie rock faves Smith Westerns, CULLEN OMORI recently embarked on solo career and he’ll drop his highly-anticipated debut album ‘New Misery’ on March 18, released on iconic independent label Sub Pop Records (original home to Nirvana, Soundgarden, Modest Mouse, Postal Service and current home to Father John Misty, Beach House, Band Of Horses) Catch CULLEN at the Independent in San Francisco on April 5, too! For Fans Of: MGMT, STRFKR, Of Montreal
Social Media: @kiiara
Though her style and influences might lead you to believe that ascending new artist KIIARA would be Scandinavian, i.e. Tove Lo, Lykke Li, Little Dragon, etc, she’s actually a former hardware store employee from Illinois and the architect of one of 2015’s hottest blog tracks! She just inked a record contract which now makes her label mates with Twenty One Pilots, Young The Giant and the Bay Area’s own Finish Ticket. For Fans Of: Flume, M.I.A. Alina Baraz.
