The Bay Area’s leading source for discovering new music, RADIO SOUNDCHECK airs every Sunday evening on Live 105 from 9PM – 12AM and showcases the very best in new music, emerging artists, indie rock and of course, provides a major voice and platform for our local bands and local music community
5 best SOUNDCHECK tracks of the month: August 2016
By Aaron Axelsen, Live 105 Music Director
1. K.FLAY – Blood In The Cut
Talented Bay Area lyricist and producer – and longtime maverick of the underground local music scene – just dropped arguably my favorite track from her impressive arsenal of songs to date with this massive and intoxicating new track ‘Blood In The Cut!’ And congrats to this Stanford alumni, too, for not only getting added to our official Live 105 playlist this week, but she’s also the first singing to Dan Reynolds’ of Imagine Dragons newly launched record label Night Street Records. Catch K.Flay headlining Great American Music Hall on October 27.
2. THE GRISWOLDS – Out Of My Head
Some of my favorite things from Australia include Crocodile Dundee, those adorable Kola Bears, AC/DC, Nicole Kidman and you can add rising indie rockers The Griswolds to this list! Check out their epic new tune and one of our most requested new Soundcheck tracks ‘Out Of My Head’ and catch them in the intimate settings of Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco on September 30.
3. WARPAINT – New Song
One of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ favorite LA bands Warpaint – former RHCP guitarist John Frusciante produced the band’s debut EP and current RHCP member Josh Klinghoffer has been a guest guitarist and drummer – are gearing up to drop their highly-anticipated third album HEADS UP on storied independent record label Rough Trade (The Smiths, Strokes, The Libertines) This all girl outfit just released the first taster from this forthcoming new album, ‘New Song,’ which drops on September 23, and New Song is an uplifting and pristine indie-pop gem.
4. NIGHT RIOTS – Nothing Personal
The boys from San Luis Obispo kinda destroyed it at BFD 2016 with an electrifying and energetic set that literally blew the roof off the Subsonic Tent! These synthpop-punks return to the Bay Area on Friday, October 14, headlining Rickshaw Stop and do so armed with a killer new single called ‘Nothing Personal.’
5. JAGWAR MA – Give Me A Reason
More musical magic coming out of Australia, this time from Sydney trippy-psychedelic 3-piece Jagwar Ma. ‘Give Me A Reason’ sounds like if you threw Tame Impala and ‘90s UK britpop legends Happy Mondays into a blender; such a mind-blowing cocktail of psych rock, electronic and ‘90s UK baggy beats. Jagwar Ma are also coming to town for a super sold-out show next week at the Independent, San Francisco, on August 31.
