Ouch! Man Ends Up With Hole In Esophagus After Ghost Pepper Eating Contest

Beware of the ghost pepper!

We’ve all heard of this so-called hottest pepper in the world. The Ghost Pepper or chili, also known as the Indian bhut jolokia, rates a mindblowing 1,000,000 on the Scoville Scale which doesn’t make it the hottest but pretty darn close.

According to CBS San Francisco, a Bay Area man was admitted to the hospital with a 1-inch hole in his esophagus after participating in a ghost pepper-eating contest.

In addition to the hole, the 47-year-old had chest pains, nausea, and experienced “violent retching and vomiting after eating ghost peppers as part of a contest.”

Moral of the story? DON”T ENTER STUPID CONTESTS!

PS: The current World Record for eating ghost peppers is reportedly held by a Kentucky man who downed 2.32 ounces of ghost peppers (equivalent of 12 to 15 peppers) in 2 minutes.
