Creator of Saved By The Bell Reveals Why the Show Never Had a Gay Character

It’s been over 20 years since Saved By The Bell left the airwaves. Still, the Saturday morning TV show has had a lasting impression on its fans. Reunions and made for TV films have kept it at the forefront of many people’s minds. Now the show’s producer has a new book detailing many stories from behind the scenes.

Peter Engel joined Kevin Klein Live to talk about about I Was Saved by the Bell: Stories of Life, Love, and Dreams That Do Come True. The long-time Hollywood producer was candid as he talked about his days on Bell, but one question seemed to catch him by surprise. On a TV show that featured so many topical teen issues, why was there never a gay character?
